There is the concept that vacations are for walking, traveling, resting, sharing with family, playing sports, sleeping late and watching movies. That’s true. However, they can also be used to think about and analyze your work situation. Do you think?
Claudia Palacio, an expert in employability and personal branding, says that the question you should ask yourself on vacation is: does my current job satisfy me? When talking about job satisfaction, we can mention, among other aspects, remuneration, how routine work may be, the work environment, day-to-day challenges, learning and meeting expectations.
“Holidays can be used as a space to reflect on what you want in working life. It is advantageous to use this time where the mind is ‘clear’, because you are not immersed in the daily hustle and bustle, so it is an excellent time to analyze yourself as a person and define work skills, locate learning, understand differentials and, with all this information, define where you can be a very valuable candidate, “says Palacio.
Palacio adds that we must use this holiday season to leave behind the fears that do not allow us to move forward. In the same way, develop new skills and have financial growth.

“Just because you have a job doesn’t mean that you shut yourself down to the job market thinking you’re not going to be valuable or sufficient in different positions. Analyze yourself, evaluate new opportunities and take a risk, “advises Palacio.
For her part, Nancy Enciso, marketing director, says that if you are going to look for work on vacation, the first thing you should do isreview and update the resume. Then, start creating anetwork of contacts.
Liliana Roa, general manager at Maestra Contable S.A.S., an accounting firm, says that the ideal would be toresign and beable to dedicate yourself exclusively to looking for the job you want, but knowing that economic commitments do not wait, paid rest time becomes the best option.
“The employee who is happy with his employer, will only think about resting and recharging energy to continue with the shirt on and fulfilling the obligations that have been entrusted to him. On the other hand, those who want toimprove their working conditions or simply close a chapter and explore a new airshould make use of that vacation time to advance in their new projects, “says Roa.
Finally, Mario Felipe Ramírez, project manager of Plexus Consultores, believes that each activity has its moment and opportunity. Vacations, according to him, “are a space to enjoy time with the family after an intense period of work, therefore, occupying it in another activity seems to me to waste something that is a right already earned.”

Jorge Hernández, a specialist in Human Management at the Pilot University of Colombia, says that vacations can serve to rethink the work path, but that if it is to look for work it has to be done before taking those days of “rest”. Hernández recalls a personal experience: “Years ago I took a vacation from the place where I was working, to go two weeks of trial to the company where they wanted to hire me, and I decided to stay. I came back from my days off and made my respective resignation.”
