The Metaverse is world or combination or consortium of cyber universes that exist in virtual reality (fully artificial or completely digital environment). Some say that the best way to explain the Metaverse is to call it a 3D internet, replete with 3D buildings, NFT art, animated Avatars. Its like being immersed in a Pixar, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, PVR and Trioscope animated film or 3D video game produced by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo or Tencent.

The Metaverse represents a $65 billion industry. In addition to the field of technology, there are intersections between the fields of manufacturing and electronic component/devices, geography, and computer applications that make the Metaverse so intriguing.

Metaverse remote job responsibilities are as diverse as the compilations of universes that comprise it. According to many in technology, the introduction of the Metaverse radically changes the jobs currently existing in the market and ramps up the creation of new jobs, titles and responsibilities to meet the challenge and promise of the Metaverse.

Analytics Insight has determined that there are five employers considered leaders in the Metaverse industry.

  • Google
  • Roblox
  • Snap
  • Microsoft
  • Adobe Systems

Incidentally, these employers offer full remote and hybrid job opportunities for job seekers. Further, these employers are not the only ones claiming a stake in the Metaverse. Traditional companies in manufacturing, architecture, engineering as well as media, entertainment and gaming are intrigued by the opportunities and definitely do not want to get left behind.

For instance, job positions that had traditionally required in-person interaction with and face-to-face feedback from peers, colleagues, supervisors, clients, and customers will suddenly have virtual alternatives. Gig work, freelance, contract, hybrid and remote job opportunities will expand exponentially as a result.

One would think that the Metaverse is some far off concept. In fact, we’ve been approaching full virtual reality immersion into Metaverse for a few years now. For instance, the US Army use tactical augmented reality (real world reality with digital overlay) eye pieces and other devices to help soldiers penpoint the exact location of adversaries and friends. To enhance the entertainment experience, the USFL and other sports leagues have used 3D graphics from augmented reality technology to allow the couch potatoes with the click of a remote button, overlay replays and live gameplay.

Warfare and entertainment are not the only current uses of augmented reality. There are medical uses as well. In the Netherlands, an innovative designer and developer Lucien Engelen from the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre created an interactive Smartphone app to quickly locate automated external defibrillators or AEDs. Using a decentralized system, any registered user of the app can add to the database of existing AED locations.
