A clinical nurse leader is a registered nurse who also has a Master’s Degree in the field of Science of Nursing and these nurses are highly skilled and are focused on improving the quality of the services offered to the patients. The candidates working at this post completes coursework in advance nursing and other fields and they are responsible for assessing the health risks, looking after patient care, provide solutions at unit levels and perform other such duties. Clinical Nurse Leader Job Responsibilities

  • At the initial contact, it is the responsibility of the clinical nurse leader to perform a comprehensive assessment of the client and share it with the direct caregiver.
  • It is the responsibility of the CNL to provide the clinical staff with the correct direction, guidance and delegation to promote provision of most efficient health care services.
  • All the direct caregivers are headed by the CNLs and they are responsible for assessing their performance and suggesting required changes in the functions they perform/ medical assistance they give.
  • The CNL have to assess the individual patients/ families, have to anticipate the risks and design a suitable healthcare plan.
  • Though the CNL do not directly implement the healthcare plan, they are responsible for ensuring that the plan is implemented properly by the rest of the staff.
  • It is the primary responsibility of the clinical nurse leader to ensure the provision of necessary coordination and communication between all the medical teams and team members within the micro system of patient care.
  • The CNL have to conduct timely or regular assessments of the treatment plan for the respective patients, make all the necessary/ required changes and communicate them with the team of caregivers.
  • The CNL also has to explain to the patient/ family the whole treatment plan while educating them about the various other medical treatments/ procedures etc. that will help in the betterment of the patient.
  • It is the responsibility of the clinical nurse leader to keep the patient and his/ her family updated on the progress of the plan.
