Attorney General is selected through elections every four years. One needs to have a degree in law and should also have good knowledge about the legal terminology. Attorney General job responsibilities include supervising the state’s legal matters and ensuring that the individuals follow the law practices. There are a number of other responsibilities assigned to an attorney general; few of these are mentioned below in detail.

Attorney General Job Responsibilities

  • Attorney General is required to appoint a deputy who is given various responsibilities of the attorney general. This deputy is required to perform various tasks assigned to the attorney general in his absence.
  • Attorney General is also required to appoint certain other such assistants whom he feels are required for undertaking different responsibilities. He is required to take the consent of the governor to appoint these personnel.
  • Attorney General needs to supervise various legal matters. These legal matters basically include the ones in which the interested party is the state.
  • Attorney General is required to appear for the state, state secretary, governor, lieutenant governor and other government officials in every law suit filed against them. However, these do not involve any kind of criminal cases.
  • Attorney General is also required to appear for the state, state secretary, governor, commissioners, auditors, directors and other government officials in all the civil proceedings.
  • Attorney General is also required to represent the cases of the general public where in the protection of their legacies, properties and other related things are involved.
  • Attorney General needs to ensure that the state is not caused any harm due to the increase in water level in the streams or rivers. He needs to take the required action to protect the state from the damage that may be cause due to this over flow or diversion of water.
  • Attorney General is required to bring suit to collect the taxes imposed by the state.
